Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, is a four-year college that offers over 200+ areas of study. The college attracts students from all walks of life from across the United States as well as internationally.
Grand Valley has achieved many goals and national attention in the last few years. Quoting from GVSU’s website:
“But perhaps the greatest attention (well, apart from football, see below) has been drawn to the campus in recent years by its pioneering efforts in campus sustainability and green building. In 2004, Grand Valley launched a formal sustainability initiative. By 2009 it was named as one of the top 25 environmentally responsible and cutting edge green colleges in the Kaplan College Guide 2009. (A timeline of events and recognition can be found on the Sustainable Community Development Initiative website.)”
The article goes on to point out that in 2004, Grand Valley’s recognition for sustainability efforts grew exponentially with the construction of the Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center in Muskegon.
What ultimately brought GVSU to the attention of TV viewers nationwide, was its football team. When the Grand Valley Lakers beat Valdosta State in the National Division II finals in 2002, they brought home the University’s first National Title. They didn’t give up there, though–they did it again in 2003, 2005, and 2006! These successes drew attention from a variety of places, including one of West Michigan’s most substantial businesses. And the rest, they say, is history.
Grand Valley State University is rich in history and diversity. It’s outstanding achievements and accomplishments, as well it’s persistence in pushing forward, has helped bring the university to the attention of thousands, nationally and internationally. Students today benefit from the growth that has resulted from these past efforts.
For educational excellence, GVSU offers prospective college students a big step forward on a path to a successful life.

- Created on Wednesday, 02 March 2011 19:00
If this is a problem that plagues you in your on-campus living space at GVSU, then you’re probably thinking about living off campus. There are a lot of choices and many things to take into consideration before making that leap. There are bound to be other amenities you want as well. Maybe you’re tired of sharing a bathroom and cleaning up after others. And lugging your laundry off to the laundry facilities only to find that there are no open washers. You may have found that sharing a bedroom makes it hard to concentrate when you’ve got exams coming up because there is too much going on around you. If you’ve checked into on-campus housing where you can live alone, you have probably discovered that the price for that luxury is way beyond your means, so now you’re considering moving off campus.
There are many off-campus living options, one being the townhomes at Meadows Crossing, located across from the 48th Avenue campus entrance. Our townhomes were designed with students’ needs and comforts in mind, with two- or four-bedroom styles to choose from. Each bedroom is fit for one person, has a private bath, and is keyed for privacy. With generous closet space and walk-in closets available, raised beds for with storage space underneath, a night stand, and a chest of drawers, you have enough room for all of your things. A desk is also provided, and given that you’ll have the quiet and privacy to devote to your studies, you’ll be able to make good use of it!
Since each townhome is fully furnished, there is nothing you need other than your books, personal items, a few kitchen utensils, and yourself! Thinking about where you have to lug your laundry? Not to worry, there’s a washer and dryer in each unit. Combine all of this with reasonable pricing and your escape from a tiny space and a lack of privacy is yours for the taking.
Meadows Crossing offers much more to help keep you happy and healthy. Our additional amenities include a fitness center that is open 24/7 and a recreation center where you can enjoy a game of pool, ping pong, or foosball, or you can simply relax and watch a movie or TV show on one of the flat screen TVs. And after a good night’s sleep, the GVSU bus stop is adjacent to Meadows Crossing, which means just a few steps gets you a quick ride to your classes! The campus is the first stop after boarding at Meadows Crossing.

Grand Valley State University is proud of their graduates and wishes them success during and after completing their academic studies. GVSU is a four-year public university located in Allendale, Michigan, and provides undergraduate education to over 24,000 students. Students from across the United States, as well as globally, come to the college expecting and receiving a top-notch education, but they receive much more. Safe, clean, structured student housing is also offered with one of the newest being right here at Meadows Crossing, located directly across from the 48th Avenue campus entrance. Our student townhomes are not only conveniently located by GVSU, but also offer easy access to great amenities and services.
According to an article published by Wood TV 8 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Grand Valley has been recognized as one of “America’s 100 Best College Buys” for 14 years in a row and was ranked the top “up and coming” institution in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report. Offering more than 200 areas of study, GVSU places high expectations on their students and future graduates, and the staff is ready to do all they can to help each student reach their full potential.
Four students who have benefited from their education at GVSU are Matt McNamara, Erik Scholten, Ana Galloway, and Emma Trout. In August of 2010, they made a trip to Arusha, Tanzania. Their goal was to get clean water to the area. McNamara, Scholten, and Galloway are American Humanics NextGen Award recipients who used their internship stipend money to buy equipment and supplies to help achieve the clean water goal.
Not only did these students achieve this goal, but they received so much more from the kindness of the people in Africa. Scholten said of his experience, “Outside of completing our project at hand, all we wanted to do was take in as much of the culture as possible. The experiences will last a lifetime. That’s not a testament to anything we did, but just how rich with life the people were toward us.”
