Cleaning Procedures:
Not sure how or what to clean before your move-out date? You are responsible for the cleanliness of your space before vacating the premises, as well as repairs of anything that has been damaged. Remember to review the move-in checklist that you turned in at the beginning of the year! This is uploaded to the documents tab on the resident portal. While reviewing this checklist, take note of what damages and/or repairs you listed when moving in.
Follow this step-by-step checklist below to ensure that your unit is properly cleaned before you and your roommates move out:
- All carpets in the bedrooms must be thoroughly vacuumed. All other floors must be vacuumed and mopped, including edges near baseboards and cabinets.
- All furniture must be cleaned prior to move-out: vacuumed, dusted, and cleaned with a non-wax cleaner such as Windex.
- Stove, exhaust fan, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, and sinks must be thoroughly cleaned. Do not turn the refrigerator off; only turn off the icemaker and turn the temperature to the lowest setting.
- All bathroom fixtures must be thoroughly cleaned and free of any residue. Make sure toilets, sinks, and showers are wiped down and clean.
- Your mattress cover must be washed and left on the bed – there will be a $50 charge if it is missing or damaged.
- Any holes, larger than a finishing nail, must be filled and sanded smooth. All scotch tape, masking tape, and duct tape must be removed from walls as well. Painting over the patched holes is not needed, as Meadows Crossing will be painting the majority of the walls in each unit.
- Tenant must replace all burned out light bulbs with LED lightbulbs; otherwise Landlord will replace them and charge $10.00 per light bulb. Tenant must also replace dead 9-volt smoke alarm batteries; otherwise Landlord will replace them and charge $5.00 per smoke detector.
- All items in the common area must be cleaned: light fixtures, doors, baseboards, trim, cupboards, windows, window sills, and screens. Mini blinds must be wiped down using a damp microfiber cloth or replaced if too dirty to be cleaned.
- Remove all personal items in the unit, including food and trash. Any and all items left behind will be considered abandoned and charged a disposal fee of $10.00 per trash bag. Large items will be disposed of at the rate of $100.00 per item left inside or outside the unit.
- Exterior of the Unit must be clean and free of debris, including cigarette butts. This includes porches, decks, steps, and grounds adjacent to the Unit. There will be a charge of $1.00 per cigarette butt found after move out.
- Take photos and videos of any damages or items that you may be responsible for repairing or cleaning and come to the leasing office with any questions or concerns that you may have regarding these items.
If these cleaning procedures are not followed properly and effectively then the Landlord may charge $100-$400 for additional cleaning services.
Turning in Your Keys:
Wondering how and where to turn in your keys? Follow the instructions below:
After moving all of your belongings out of your unit and cleaning, stop by the leasing office to drop off your keys, parking permit sticker, and forwarding address. There is a move out table right when you enter the office with all of the information and materials you will need in order to correctly turn in your keys and forwarding address with ease.
- Return all keys and parking permits in one of our designated key envelopes and label it with your Unit number and bedroom.
- Drop your key envelope off to any office staff member during our office hours from 10:00 am-5:00 pm, or drop it in the drop box located in the lobby of the leasing office building during after hours. Do not leave any keys inside the Unit.
- Failure to return keys by your lease end date will result in a lock change charge of $100.00.
- Tenant must drop off keys by 11:59 pm on the day their lease ends, otherwise, Tenant will be charged a holdover fee at a minimum rate of $60.00 per hour for a late move-out, and Tenant may be subject to additional charges per Section 1 of the Lease.
Submit a Forwarding Address:
Do’s and Don’ts of submitting your forwarding address:
- Don’t forget to leave your forwarding address! If you don’t submit a forwarding address to us when leaving Meadows Crossing, we have no way to mail you your security deposit back at the end of your Lease.
- Please submit your Permanent Address to us as your forwarding address. An example of a permanent address would be your parent’s or a relative’s address.
- DO NOT put your forwarding address as your address and unit at Meadows Crossing, since you will no longer be living here.
- If you do not have a permanent address to provide at move out, you will need to stop by the Leasing Office to pick up your security deposit check when it’s ready.
The staff at our Meadows Crossing student-apartment community in Allendale, Michigan, wants to thank you for choosing “the place to be” for the 2022-2023 leasing year and assist you in having a great move out experience. We hope that you have a great summer!
