Get Out of Your Apartment this Winter with Activities at Grand Valley

For Michigan students by the end of February, winter has taken its toll on our attitudes; especially this one. Our phone bills have gone up from not leaving the apartment, getting out to do activities seems so much harder, and junky comfort food has worked its way into our diets, almost without our consent. Here are some ways to break up the winter blahs on Grand Valley’s campus.

Take the bus from Meadows Crossing over to the Field House room B160 and dance away your winter blues. Join the free groove class that focuses on holistic health and soak up the energy of other dancers. Nothing will feel better on a snowy day than moving your body. The groove class is on February 26 from 12 to 12:45 p.m. There is also a free Zumba class on February 28 at 1 p.m. in the same room. Be inspired by the energy and beauty of the GVSU Brass Quintet playing in the Performing Arts Center on the Allendale Campus. They will be playing bright pieces by various contemporary favorites such as Sergei Prokofiev and Malcolm Arnold. Even better, the concert has free admission. The Quintet will be performing February 26 from 6-7:30 p.m. There are numerous concerts at GVSU that can offer brief reprieve from the drudgery of winter.

Immerse yourself into another culture for one evening. The Japanese Cultural Association is hosting an interactive evening that introduces students to the historic tradition of a tea ceremony and Japanese culture. The free event will be held Tuesday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center.

These are just a few fun ideas to bring you out of your winter funk and get you out of your apartment. Whether it’s music, exercise, or a trip into a different world; doing any campus activity will ultimately make you feel better and more hopeful about spring.
