The athletics programs at Grand Valley are top notch and a highlight for both the students and the alumni. Meadows Crossing is proud to support Grand Valley athletics in a number of ways. We believe in encouraging excellence!
How Awesome are GVSU Athletics?
Last year the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced that Grand Valley State University captured the 2016-17 Learfield Directors’ Cup title with 1,020 points in the maximum number of 14 sports (7 men/7 women). This year Grand Valley State finished in second place in Division II rankings. For the past 17 years GVSU has led in excellence, finishing either first or second in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standing, and taking home 12 Directors’ Cup titles. Go Lakers!
Meadows Crossing has been a GVSU athletics sponsor for most of that time – since 2007. Every year since 2007 Meadows Crossing has sponsored the first home football game of the year. We give away over 2,000 t-shirts during this game every year too. We stake out our turf during pre-game and set up enthusiastic GVSU fans with free swag that serves as great advertising for GVSU’s programs.
We don’t draw the line at fall sports, though. Meadows Crossing also sponsors a basketball game every year for both the men’s and the women’s teams. These kinds of sponsorships help Grand Valley to offset the costs of running its robust athletic program, and we’re glad to be a part of that. For most college students either participating in or watching their teams play adds something great to their college experience. Letting your GVSU fan flag fly is a great way to let off steam and combat stress, especially when the ramp up to finals begins and it’s harder to unwind.
Informal Athletics Are Also Great
We also like to encourage our tenants to stay in shape and compete just for fun in our 3-on-3 basketball tournaments and volleyball tournaments. Getting outside and mixing it up with other tenants on the court is a great way to meet people and have fun. This is why we offer so many outdoor amenities – because they markedly improve people’s quality of life.
Studies have demonstrated time and time again that there is a real link between physical activity and academic performance. This doesn’t have to be formal or even informal athletics. Even a five-minute walk can make a difference in cognitive performance. However, athletics help to develop body, brain, social dynamics, and leadership traits. Participating in sports is a great strategy for success.
It’s a no brainer to sponsor GVSU athletics when the teams themselves are so great, the games are so enjoyable to watch, and athletics and scholastic success go so hand in hand. That’s why Meadows Crossing makes this a priority every year!
